最近几期的NME上都有对Blur成员的专访，上周是Graham Coxon的，本周是Damon的（此为第一部分，第二部分又要等下周了）。看来两人对于Blur reunion的心态都不错，虽然没有谈的很多，但总体感觉还是相当positive的。

每次Damon和Massive Attack的3D（Robert Del Naja）的名字出现在一起时，如果和音乐无关的话，那八成就是反战什么的了——这回也一样。前几天刚提到50多名音乐人联合签名反对核武器运动，Damon和Massive Attack也名列其中。而最近这两人又弄了一个no-bomb网站：http://no-bomb.com/ 。在myspace上也有：http://www.myspace.com/no_bomb 。其标志图案则出自于Jamie Hewlett之手：

"Do you know Merc, the Mod fashion shop? They said to me a while ago, 'Hey, why don't you design a suit?'. And i thought about it and i considered the lack of suits that are actually quite nice, and i thought i'd have a go. I've chosen the cloth, the buttons, the angles of the pockets and the jacket.
Graham has designed the 'Graham Coxon for Merc' woven label for the jacket.

Beginning during his tenure with Blur and continuing since his messy departure from the band in 2002, guitarist Graham Coxon has mounted a fairly successful solo career, spanning six full-length albums and counting. His latest, the solid Love Travels at Illegal Speeds, hit UK shops back in March and landed Stateside just last week via Parlophone.

Pitchfork recently phoned up Graham for a brief but revealing chat about the predominant forces behind Love Travels at Illegal Speeds, a desire to lead a simple life, the inevitable Blur/Coxon reunion question, and why people should leave that poor animated milk carton in peace.

"Dislocation, regret, and despondency," a matter-of-fact Coxon cited as three of the primary muses behind his work. "I think they're key to good music, really."

According to Coxon, Love Travels' "Don't Believe Anything I Say" best captures and balances those unfortunate sentiments. "I dig that one. I just got across the feeling that I was feeling at that time about regret, being on your own, feeling dislocated from everybody-- all people. It's got the right levels of despondency and regret."

As Coxon wryly continued, "I guess I always find something to moan about: my skill." So what's the talented songsmith, writer, and visual artist bemoaning these days?

"Not enough time to do the stuff that I enjoy doing. I haven't had much time to write, and I haven't had much time to ride my bikes and just stare at the sky. That's what I like to do." Instead, his time is sucked up by "all sorts of chores. And just stuff-- just life, you know? Just the grown up stuff we hate to do, but have to."

For that reason Coxon's determined to slow things down a bit in the year to come, to do "as little as possible, I think. I'll mainly write [and] force myself to rest a little bit. And spend some time with my little girl and other people I love, and relax and forget about the music industry for a little bit-- you know, ride my bikes and be in the countryside away from all the lunatics."

Lunatics...like those who worship Milky, the star of Blur's now classic Hammer & Tongs-directed 1999 video for "Coffee & TV", off 13.

"He's a pain in the arse," grumbled Coxon when asked about the cutesy character, who's inspired quite a following. "Is his name Milky or something like that? That's pretty gross, isn't it? Being called Milky? Weird."

When further questioned, Coxon admitted his qualms are less with Milky himself than with folks who take the character too seriously. "I don't mind Milky. I just think he was made out of wire and cardboard, and people can be such freaks, making websites out of it. People should go out more, maybe, to coffee shops and talk to other people."

Haha, but he is an enduring character, is he not? "Yeah, he is nice. But he's up there in heaven with the strawberry milk girl, so it's fine...He probably doesn't need to be brought back to life. He's probably having a good time with her."

Coxon was significantly less dour about the possibility of a reunion with Blur. The band's former guitarist admits he hasn't "spoken to them for a bit, [except bassist] Alex [James]. I'm going to see him tomorrow at his birthday...Alex will always be my friend. I guess they all will be in some way, but it's somewhat strange."

"I haven't been approached about it," reported Coxon about getting back together with the Brit-pop titans. But "I think about it, yeah. I think about it: would it be fun? Would it be a bit too scary? What would the dynamic be in a studio? Would I have to do promotion? Would I tour? You know, it's a lot of thinking. So I guess I still mull around and think about it every now and then."

So it's not completely ruled out, then? "No, no."

Speaking of touring, Coxon hopes to return to the States in late 2007. Until then, however, it's writing, biking, and maybe "a little stint at the Cambridge Folk Festival next year here. I don't know, there's a few bits maybe to do if I'm in the mood, but I don't really want to plan much, because I don't know what mood I'm going to be in. I wouldn't mind doing a few things musically, but we'll see."

Moods and whims won't dictate all of Graham's decisions, however. "I'm driven by whim when it comes to collaboration, but when it comes to writing, then I'm not. That's something I try to do every day."

"Hopefully some of it will be good enough for an LP. Sometimes it isn't. And I'm going to write for a long period of time, longer than I normally do-- so I have a lot of songs of differing qualities, types-- and just see what happens, really."

Some people have said Alex James is being too ambitious by stating that he wants Blur to make one final album with their original line-up.

Guitarist Graham Coxon left the indie band in 2002 after being told his services were no longer required - and since then has frequently said that he has no plans to do anything with the rest of them.

But James, who covered for Nemone this afternoon (10 November) on 6 Music, says it’s looking likely that things will get going next year. James was joined on air with another fellow band member, David Rowntree, who claimed that if it was up to him then the band would already be back together:

“The days of Blur doing a tour will not happen, most of the band have kids now, and when you’re a touring band you have to make a choice, so there will never be a return to that, but we have been talking about doing an album next year, we have even set a date for it.”

Previously James said that Graham was also warming to the idea:

“I think we'd all like to make another record. We'd all like to do it with Graham, we may have to beg him a bit though.”

Blur's members are known for their side projects. Damon Albarn has recorded as Gorillaz plus The Good, The Bad and The Queen, while Coxon has a solo career and James has worked with Stephen Duffy and Keith Allen among others; Rowntree reckons with all that going on it’s too difficult to say what a revived Blur will sound like these days,

“There’s no master sound for how a bands or albums will sound, it’s not like Harry Potter, we didn’t have the concept first and then go and write the books!”

Goodbadqueen.com caught up with Damon Albarn the day after the Camden Roundhouse shows. Tired after a heavy night out, but happy with the ways the shows had gone, we put some questions to him about the band and his other projects. With special thanks to Damon for his time, and Celine aka Babylondon for invaluable assistance.

GBQ: What was up last night with the songs stopping in the middle last night at the Roundhouse show?

Damon Albarn (DA): Yeah that was Paul and Tony. But when we started again, it was even better. They got one of my very severe looks. [shouting] F***ING GET IT RIGHT! [laughs]

GBQ: Well it seemed to work out okay because the second version of Three Changes in particular had everyone jumping...

DA: It was better, it was better. It was all pre-planned [laughs]. I have to say, it only just occurred to me that stopping songs and starting again is a good thing actually. It's hard playing a record that noone knows. But I was really happy, I just had a nice time last night. I said it was nice to be back, and I meant every word of it.

GBQ: How about taking it on the road? What are your live plans for the band?

DA: Yeah in the new year we're going on a British tour. It's been a long time, I can't remember the last time I did a British tour! We're going to play places like Motherwell, and Southsea...

GBQ: Places a bit out of the ordinary?

DA: Not out of the ordinary. Just forgotten by the music industry. Not really off the beaten track - Motherwell for example, that's a big city, just nobody ever goes to it.

GBQ: Is The Good The Bad And The Queen going to be a one-off thing, just the one album?

DA: I don't know. I always start things with no particular plans and just see how they go. Gorillaz started off as a one-off thing and now it's a global phenomenon [laughs]. So who knows. I'm just doing it because I like the guys in the band.

GBQ: Paul Simonon [bass] had said he didn't want to play any more music, he just wanted to be a painter. So how did you convince him to join the band?

DA: I just asked him. I rung him up. And we got on really well. That's why we work together, because we get on so well. I work with my mates, you know? It's the best way to work.

GBQ: I think it's great how, in interviews, the other members of the band have come out and said they feel it's their record as well, even though it started out as your record...

DA: It's definitely their record as well. You can't make solo records, there's no such thing as a solo record. It's a non-existent entity. There'll be people who review it and say 'oh it's just another thing for Damon to do'. That's bullshit. I've got a distinctive voice, but that's all that stays the same with what I do. I can't change my voice! It'd be a bit odd if I changed my voice. But everything else, God no, it all changes. The same thing happens when people say it's just Jamie and me who do Gorillaz. That's just ridiculous. There are thousands of people involved.

GBQ: Your bandmates in this new band have all worked with great musicians and in great bands before, like Paul Simonon, in the Clash with Joe Strummer... do you feel any pressure to live up to these legacies?

DA: Well I'm a massive fan of The Clash. But I'm just different to Joe Strummer. I'm not any better or worse than Joe, just different. There are things that he could do with his voice that I'll never be able to do. And there are certainly things I can do with my voice that he'd never be able to do. You can't compare us, can you? I thought he was a fantastic frontman.

GBQ: People have been suggesting on the fan forums that you might bolster the Good The Bad And The Queen set with a few numbers from your respective back catalogues. How about that, Rock The Casbah for an encore perhaps? [laughs]

DA: [laughing] Yeah we've got enough numbers to keep us going all night, between us! Well, the idea is to play the album. We might add some more, we'll have to see how it goes. For example, we added Mr.Whippy last night, but that doesn't mean we'll do it again. It was just a nice thing to do last night. Never become predictable!

GBQ: We've just had a chat to Jamie Hewlett about plans for the Gorillaz movie...

DA: Yeah, that's what we're doing. I was with Terry last night.(这里的Terry就是Terry Gilliam)

GBQ: Will you be doing some music for the film?

DA: Yeah. Well, I'm doing the film as well. I'm not just doing music for it! I'm not letting them do it on their own!(Damon说做电影他也要参与的,可不只是电影音乐) That's Gorillaz. I don't know what Jamie's been telling you [laughs] - Gorillaz is him and me, 50/50. So he's not making a film unless I want to make a film. [calls over to Jamie] what have you been telling him? That I'm going to be putting music to your film? You've been running away with it have you? [laughs] Well that's it, we're not doing it anymore. Fuck the film [laughs] [GBQ's note: Damon is joking here!] Well the thing is, we've got a great team. Which you're part of. Well, you know what I mean. It's a good team. A lot of really smart people at Zombie. I'm very lucky to work with all these people.

GBQ: Let me rephrase that then - the film that you're doing, your film and Jamie's film [laughs]...

DA: That's better [laughs]

GBQ: ...let's say, while Jamie might be concentrating more on the design elements, you might be doing more work on the musical side. Have you any idea what the music might be like for it?

DA: I haven't really got around to thinking what the album might be like yet. When we get further into the project and the movie takes shape, I'll think about it then.

GBQ: It's great to hear that you and Jamie are carrying on with Gorillaz, the fans are going to be very pleased.

DA: Of course, essentially the next thing we're doing, Monkey, is Gorillaz as well, really. There are contractual reasons why we don't call it that, which we don't have to do if we do it this way. Really, we're going to work together forever I hope.

GBQ: So how's the preparation for Monkey going?

DA: Yeah, I'm writing music for Jamie's sets [laughs]. We went out to China again for more research recently. There was one occasion - we walked to the top of this mountain, and on the way down, Jamie's knee gave out and he had to be carried down by these Tibetan guys. I walked down but took a wrong turn - and ended up having to walk 42 kilometres to find them. They were about to call out a massive search party.. I actually did start to think that it would never end! As far as Monkey's going, we're starting to finish up on that now.(居然又来了一趟中国???)
GBQ: So you have a lot on with Monkey, Gorillaz, The Good The Bad And The Queen... any other future plans?

DA: I'm going to Algeria tomorrow morning to record an album. That'll come out on Honest Jon's. I'm going to be working with musicians I've met on previous trips, basically I've been preparing to do this record for about a year. I'm just going to go over there for five days and do it. It'll be released at the beginning of next year. . (那他明年看来要出2张唱片了)

Some might say that Alex James is being ambitious by stating that he wants Blur to make one final album with their original line-up.

Guitarist Graham Coxon left the indie band in 2002 after being told his services were no longer required - and since then has frequently said that he has no plans to return.

But James - the group's bassist, who is about to present revived music show The Tube - reveals he has been in discussions with Coxon recently.

"I've got high hopes that Blur will have a happy four-piece ending," he explains. "I think it would be a shame if it didn't, really.

"I think we'd all like to make another record. We'd all like to do it with Graham.

"I've been talking to Graham a bit and hopefully I can persuade him. I'm going to have to beg him, though," he admits.

Blur's members are known for their side projects. Damon Albarn has recorded as Gorillaz plus The Good, The Bad and The Queen, while Coxon has a solo career and James has worked with Stephen Duffy and Keith Allen among others.

But Blur - whose hits include Girls and Boys, Parklife and There's No Other Way - are "too good a thing to let it disintegrate", says James.

"One way or the other, there'll be another Blur album, with or without Graham - but hopefully with Graham. I think it's definitely worth trying.

"I'm sure Paul McCartney feels the same, but I still don't think we've made our best record yet. That's one of the things you get when you're a musician.

"You think, 'I'm going to do something brilliant in a minute.' If you don't think that, you've got to stop."

Recently, the 37-year-old has been working with actor Steven Berkoff on what he describes as "some pop songs".

"We started off trying to turn one of his plays into an opera.

James is working with actor Steven Berkoff

"It's an amazing piece of work but it was becoming quite an unwieldy thing. It was probably a bit ambitious to try to make that into an opera," James says.

"He's written a bunch of songs and they're really good. He's got tunes for them and he's a very clever man, a proper genius.

"They don't beat around the bush. They're very message-heavy."

James says they may not be released in a traditional album format.

"I can make the records and he can make the videos and we can probably just chuck them out on YouTube or something.

"That's the great thing about working with actors - they can be in the videos. Imagine the worst villain he's every played - that's who he is."

'Counter-culture'

This Friday sees James joining Konnie Huq to present a new monthly version of The Tube.

The alternative music show is being revived by Channel 4 Radio, and online service from the broadcaster which originally screened the show, fronted by Jools Holland and Paula Yates in the 1980s.

"I liked the old one," he says. "It was the only counter-culture that really existed in the 80s.

James is about to host The Tube radio show with Konnie Huq

"It was a time of great gloss, glamorous aspirations and yuppies, and that nastiness drove a very strong counter-culture, which was all represented by The Tube.

"Now I think The Tube is a search engine of everything which is good and new and exciting.

"And it's a bit of a laugh. I like Konnie a lot. I think she's a worthy successor to Paula Yates - and very saucy."

And as for the future, James - now a father of three - says his tastes are changing as he grows older.

"I'm 38 next month so I've thrown all my trainers away and all my records with loud drums on," he admits.

我有2场live的mp3，不过Roundhouse那场音质虽然还好，但当中时不时有网络传输的杂音和windows的杂音（因为是歌迷从网上录的），有人要的话可以传一下。如果和我一样有强迫症，可以把他们目前的四场live都下载下来，slsk上有。

这些歌其中：Northern Whale改编自去年Damon在海啸慈善演出时唱的那首歌；Behind The Sun改编自John Peel纪念演出上的那首歌；Green Fields先前是Damon为Marianne Faithful写的Last Song。比较不爽的是官网3个视频中好多好听的曲段没有收录在专辑里。另外，Roundhouse那场失误不少，不过bbc的视频里好象剪掉了。更具体的可以看我瞎写的介绍：http://www.douban.com/review/
